Don't just pay.
The fox checks it – for free.
Measurement errors, formal errors, deadline issues: German fine notices are more contestable than you think. Have your case reviewed by a traffic law attorney before you pay – free, non-binding and submitted in 2 minutes. In English.
Important: You can only appeal a German fine notice (Bußgeldbescheid) within two weeks of service (sec. 67 OWiG). After that it becomes final – including points and any driving ban.

StVG amendment as of 01.07.2026: Longer limitation period, points trading banned, scan cars coming
Since 1 July, the Fifth Act Amending the Road Traffic Act has been in force – with tangible consequences for anyone who receives a fine notice.
Driving ban: new commencement deadline since 01.06.2026 – 1 month as the default, 4 months for first-time offenders
Until now, a driving ban without the first-time offender privilege took effect immediately – now there is always up to one month of time. But beware: the ban period only starts running once you hand in your licence.
Many fine notices have weak points
Experts of the German association for accident analysis and road safety (VUT) found, when evaluating measurement procedures, that a substantial share of the fine charges they examined was technically contestable – for example due to missing measurement logs, expired calibration or untrained operators.
- Measuring device not correctly calibrated or positioned
- Measurement log missing or incomplete
- Service and formal errors in the notice
- Limitation: 6 months until service (since 07/2026)
- Driver not clearly identifiable on the camera photo
